SAPRA - the International Association of Defence Product Manufacturers - hosted the tenth meeting of the Defence Industry Advisory Council, chaired by Minister of Defence Andris Sprūds, where current defence industry development and innovation priorities were discussed.
During the meeting, participants were introduced to the planned Defence Technology and Innovation Centre (ATIC), intended to serve as the primary contact point for defence sector innovation support. ATIC will provide support for innovation implementation and testing in close cooperation with the National Armed Forces, including through the use of available infrastructure.
The Minister of Defence also informed participants about the memorandum of understanding signed between Latvia and leading Ukrainian business and defence industry organisations, aimed at promoting joint innovation and sector growth.
In addition, participants discussed proposals submitted by industry representatives regarding amendments to the Defence Industry Law, with the objective of improving cooperation mechanisms and strengthening sector competitiveness.
The purpose of the Defence Industry Advisory Council is to discuss sector priorities, provide recommendations, promote defence industry initiatives and coordinate the implementation of strategic development directions.
