SAPRA - the International Association of Defence Product Manufacturers - took part in a Defence Industry Advisory Council meeting at Latvia’s Ministry of Defence. Representatives of the Ministry, the National Armed Forces and leading industry organisations discussed defence capability development priorities, industry support instruments and export opportunities for Latvian companies.

Discussions focused on National Armed Forces capability development for 2027-2028 and the contribution domestic industry can make to equipping and supporting the armed forces. Particular attention was given to opportunities for Latvian companies to apply their technological expertise and manufacturing capacity to defence requirements.

Current calls under the European Union’s AGILE and EDIP programmes were considered in the context of business development and international cooperation. These programmes offer opportunities to secure funding, expand production and establish international partnerships.

Discussions on exports and support for Ukraine highlighted the BRAVE1 testing platform as an important first step for Latvian defence industry exports to Ukraine.

Work also continues to map the technological capabilities of Latvian companies for the 2027 military products catalogue, covering both finished-product developers and component manufacturers. In cooperation with the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) and Latvian embassies, this material will be used to showcase Latvian companies’ products and capabilities and strengthen their international visibility.
